I am the attorney who will thoroughly explain your legal rights in plain, understandable English.

Having been admitted to the Colorado and California bars in 2004, I have been an advocate for justice for my clients for over 20 years. I am also a licensed real estate agent in Colorado. My roots are rural, raised in the small town of Florence, Colorado.  I know what hard work is; I took care of my parents and had a job from a young age. From this experience, I followed my heart to become an attorney.  I enjoy the detail-oriented nature of working on complicated cases. I consider my character to reflect that I am aggressive, no nonsense, yet humble.  I am honored to be part of this community, and I often give back, volunteering my services through the various non-profit legal associations.

I am a Commissioner on the Colorado Access to Justice Commission through the Colorado Supreme Court.  Additionally, through the Colorado Office of Attorney Regulation, I help fellow attorneys who have violated the rules of professional conduct and assist those attorneys in implementing best practices for their own law firms.

Thomas Dunbar

Thomas Dunbar is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado. Thomas received his bachelor’s degree from Depauw University, majoring in Political Science. He then went on to Law School and graduated from Valparasio Law School in Indiana and passed the Colorado Bar.  Mr. Dunbar just won the Pueblo County Bar Associations Outstanding Young Attorney Award.

Thomas worked for a summer at the Chicago Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission. At the Guardianship and Advocacy commission, the lawyers work with wards of the state who desperately need legal counsel for various personal reasons. There, Thomas learned many of the general principles of court and probate law.

Furthermore, Thomas learned the value of being a caring and competent attorney by witnessing the various attorney’s work tirelessly for their appointed wards.

Thomas also spent a year clerking for Austgen Kuiper Jasaitis in Crown Point, Indiana.
AKJ is a smaller firm, employing a handful of attorneys, but deals with a large client base and a wide variety of law. Thomas was personally involved in cases dealing with criminal, bankruptcy, family, municipal, and civil law. Thomas learned the skills necessary to be a flexible attorney, who can understand legal concepts from a wide
variety of law.

Thomas is passionate about beginning his legal career and is thrilled to be working at Hassler Law Firm, LLC. Thomas prides himself on empathizing with the difficulties facing his clients and making sure that he handles their issue the way the client wants it to be handled, while fully comprising the client of their legal rights.

“My passion is advocating for justice on behalf of others and helping them navigate through the complex court system so that they can move forward, from the most trying times in their lives, in a positive way.”

Patrick Jones doesn’t consider his job done once he has helped clients navigate the court system during an often-turbulent period of their lives. Patrick also wants to see his clients leave the courtroom with the tools they need to move forward with their lives in a positive way.

While attending the Thomas M. Cooley Law School at Western Michigan University, Patrick worked for the Innocence Project, assisting in drafting legal petitions requesting DNA testing of evidence that would support the factual innocence of his clients. He then began his legal career as a prosecutor in Pueblo County, where he tried many diverse criminal cases including homicides, sexual assaults, and domestic violence.

After more than four years of prosecuting criminal cases, Patrick transitioned to private practice so he could apply his legal and trial skills to help people navigate the complex legal process during the most trying times of their lives. He believes practicing law is the best way he can serve individuals and families in the community and advocate for justice on their behalf.

Outside the courtroom, Patrick enjoys playing hockey, snowboarding, swimming, and hiking with his wife and children.

Patrick is primarily located at our Colorado Springs location but can also be in the Pueblo office from time to time.

Rebecca mcmurtree

Colorado has now given its citizens another avenue to obtain legal assistance. This program is the Limited Legal Paraprofessional or as commonly referred to as LLP’s.

LLP’s are licensed just like an attorney. LLP’s are licensed to practice family law, including divorce and custody cases, name changes, and other various actions within the family law area. Think of it as the equivalent of PA or NP in the medical field.

Since the license is limited, there are certain cases and tasks, that are off limits for an LLP. An LLP can explain further what cases they can take, assist with or provide legal direction for. The best part is since LLP’s are limited in their licensure, and not a licensed attorney, the fees are more affordable.

So if you are finding yourself needing legal services in Domestic relations cases and can’t afford an attorney or just need legal assistance as a pro se party, consider hiring an LLP.

Hassler Law Firm is proud to announce our own Office Manager and Senior Paralegal, Rebecca McMurtree has met the qualifications and completed the testing to become part of the inaugural class LLP’s in the state.

Rebecca believes legal services should be more accessible to all, now with the addition of LLP’s, that possibility is becoming more of a reality.

Rebecca was granted a license on June 20, 2024. Currently she is one of two LLP’s in Pueblo.

Rebecca grew up in Rye, Colorado and graduated from Rye High school. She then when on to attend school in Ottawa Kansas at Ottawa University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Eventually Rebecca went back to school and obtained her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Rebecca also earned her certificate in Paralegal Studies from CSU-Pueblo.

Rebecca has worked as a Paralegal for Hassler Law Firm, LLC since March of 2009.
When not helping people with their legal matters, Rebecca spends time with her Husband of 19 years and has three great kids, the oldest just having graduated from high school. Rebecca spends a lot of her free time supporting her kids and their sports and school activities. When not shuffling kids around or working, Rebecca likes to escape to the mountains or dream of ways to get herself into trouble with “honey do lists” around her house.

Rebecca won the Gail Rodosevich Legal Support Award from the Pueblo Bar Association in 2015
And is a two-time Platinum Award winner for the Community Votes Pueblo in 2023 and 2024 for Paralegals.
